This superior grade Pashmina fiber is used to create the world’s finest shawls, and is far removed from the commercially produced and often coarsely woven, blended, or faux “pashmina” that floods the fashion market.
In this particular Pashmina shawl, the weavers have chosen to use especially lovely hand-spun yarns in mixed shades of soft, Dusky Blue and Quiet Taupe. Delicate variations in the fine twist of the yarn and density of weave result in very subtle shifts of light and shadow, beautifully enhancing the texture of the petite Diamond weave pattern. This particular weave is called “BulBul,” or “Eye of the Nightingale” in Kashmir. Every aspect of the creation of this exclusive shawl, from the gathering of the natural Pashmina fiber, to spinning, dying, and weaving in Kashmir, has been accomplished through hand means by highly skilled artisans.
Handmade Pure Pashmina shawls and stoles will customarily display variances in yarn thicknesses, tightness or loosness of weave, color, and occasional floating or twisted loops of pashmina yarn. Often small inclusions of darker fibers are seen either as lines or dots of a colour that differ from the primary background shade. These are normally thicker or darker Pashmina or Cashmere fibers that became incorporated into the yarn during hand-spinning in home environments. So that the delicacy of the weave is not disturbed, these inclusions should not be removed.
