Elegant and bold, this sophisticated Paisley Shawl was designed in the mode of the grand shawls worn at the most influential courts of Kashmir, India, and France during the 17th century. This graceful shawl, or “shal,” exquisitely reflects an eclectic artistry drawn from the variety of cultures which harmoniously thrived in ancient Kashmir for many decades, a society of tolerance which included Hindu, Buddhist, Mughal, Persian, and a multitude of indigenous tribal traditions. It has been inspired by a flowing legacy of inner and outer beauty, created with the gloriously abundant display of flowers and refinement of craftsmanship which are hallmarks of highly prized Kashmiri Shawls.

Woven in rich shades of Garnet Red, Rust, Dark Navy, Gray, Natural Bronze, Parchment Beige, and Black, this lovely full size shawl is filled with stylized Chinar leaves floating from the sky, harmoniously blending with a swirl of vines, leaves, elaborately entwined Paisley motifs and Himalayan blossoms in an opulent tapestry of colour and shade. The Chinar, with leaves shaped similar to the Chestnut, is regarded as a sacred tree with majestic boughs and hollow trunks where sages of old are said to meditate. Patterned after an antique Kani weave Jamawar Shawl from the dynasty that also built the Taj Mahal, this unique, graceful wrap was fashioned with the generous help of private collectors who made their original shawls available to a trusted designer and producer so that the distinctive styles from that era may be enjoyed by others.
