Kashmiri Ari Embroidered Shawl - Garden Lanterns - SOLD

This dramatically styled Ari Shawl is purely unique in design, and is an elegant example of the best of the ari style of embellishment entirely hand worked with the traditional single stitch curved needle. The beautiful art of ari embroidery has been practiced for generations by peoples who are descended from the original tribal inhabitants of ancient Kashmir as well as by the many artisans from Persia and Turkestan who throughout the centuries came to settle in this kingdom fabled for high quality, handmade shawls.
Their expressions are eternally captivating, always created to share with others the surrounding beauty of mountain light and the abundance of exquisite Himalayan flowers that carpet the hills and valleys.

Fashioned during the winter months in villages nestled in the snow bound Himalayas, this enchanting shawl features a Jet Black background of soft Kashmiri wool lavishly adorned with garden borders of petite paisleys and delicate Himalayan blossoms edged with slender lines and waves. Five floral medallions float within the field, each individually shaped to resemble the beautiful hand-pierced copper lanterns used to light traditional Kashmiri homes and gardens. Entirely embroidered by hand, the artist has expertly selected to use lovely soft shades of Dusky Rose, Taupe, Natural Gold, and Soft Beige accented with rich, deep Saffron. Acquired directly from a shawl atelier in the high altitude region of western Kashmir, this supremely graceful stole size wrap imparts the natural joy of a Kind Soul. An exquisite and rare gem, this is a one of a kind collector’s shawl suitable for any occasion in these times, but a shawl that would have been worn at Court and other formal venues in the ancient kingdoms of the Subcontinent.
Sophisticated and charming, this exclusive shawl may be wrapped in normal fashion around the shoulders or shrugged up for extra warmth closer to the neck. Or alternatively, wear draped fully across the front with both ends flowing loosely over the shoulders and down the back, perfect for those glamorous occasions!
