We are fortunate to have acquired an outstanding selection of Aari hand embroidered Kashmiri Shawls of treasured quality, fashioned by distinguished embroidery families in that ancient land.

A number of these shawls and stoles were hand carried to us from remote villages in the Himalayan valleys, where the art of embroidery is pursued during the winter months when deep snows at last silence the final days of harvest season. By tradition, shawls with this refinement and heritage design are handed down from generation to generation, as are the patterns for creating them.

Typically, these shawls would never be seen in a shop in Kashmir itself. Instead, each fine embroidered shawl would be offered privately to collectors and visitors with cherished referrals to the shawl masters. They would be presented in private homes in polite settings, a world of laughter, lots of chai tea, gifts of saffron and silk, excitement about the art of the shawl, instruction about fibers, weaving and embroidery technique, all capped off with fascinating conversations about family life and the world at large.
