Shawls have always been important to meditators of many traditions for the intimacy and warmth afforded by this simple wrap, as well as for other practical uses during periods of personal retreat and travel. Finding it difficult to acquire good quality shawls here in the U.S., even at specialty stores in ethnic, ashram, or retreat communities, I decided to directly import the lovely, absolutely gorgeous shawls from India that are still a constant source of delight and amazement for their sheer beauty, even after handling thousands of shawls, wraps, and stoles for many years. Initially intending to pursue a wholesale endeavor after working within the high tech world of Silicon Valley, I brought in a first order of shawls in a variety of unique designs and hosted a private showing for the many wonderful ladies who were both friends and colleagues. Their enthusiastic response was enough to let me know that the styles and qualities I had selected were wonderfully suitable for the lifestyle and sensibilities of the professional woman on the go. And, I discovered that it was the individual that I wanted to serve, and learned the joys of the personal relationships that are often formed when an individual seeks advice on selecting just the right shawl. With an artistic background in jewelry design, goldsmithing, painting, and drawing, I became thoroughly fascinated with the exquisite world of textiles and design from the ancient Himalayan kingdoms and was thrilled to find a new creative outlet! With ongoing training in the art of the shawl by a Master of Shawl from Kashmir, coupled with personal instruction in the various adornments and creation of Pure Pashmina shawls by the largest producer of Pashmina in Kashmir, the Hamsa Shawls collection has since expanded from our initial offerings of Paisley Shawls and Meditation Shawls to include Luxury Shawls that are treasured by collectors, exquisite Hand-Embroidered Shawls, custom designed Evening Shawls and Evening Wraps, quality Designer Shawls woven with rare and superfine fibers, and the incomparable Pure Pashmina Shawls from Kashmir.
